SUSAN SHUP Paris–based American, Susan Shup is an artist who paints and draws in her Paris, France art studio THE SHUPSHOP. She also creates her SHUPSHOP PRODUCTIONS, digital imaging, video and recorded sound there. Shup’s work explores the multi-faceted aspects of the artist’s life, such as performance and self-promotion, but also modesty and fear. Shup becomes a part if her own work, herself playing out roles as subject and actor. Her large scale «poetry paintings» are humorous and pop, lush, mysterious and bittersweet. She allows the paintings to speak for her, to speak for us all when tackling such themes as acceptance and memory. This spring and summer her videos series, LIVING WITH ART, was included by the artist Jacques Lizène's in his installation for the Centre Georges Pompidou's exhibition LES TRACES DU SACRÉ. The paris gallery, Miss China Beauty, regularly shows Shup's work and exhibited her for the last 2 years at the Slick Art Fair and at this year's Slick Dessin. Susan Shup has created textile design and visual identity for the Paris/Shanghai fashion company LES AMIES DE LOUISE and has included HERMES, Paris as a client for her illustrations. In 2008 Shup developed a series of small animation films and paintings for Vivendi Universal based on her audio cd YOU ARE GREAT and completed wall drawings for the hip new marais paris coiffeur, RB2. Susan Shup is represented in London by Rabih Hage.
